about

I explore how functional objects become part of us and our stories through my ceramic work- how we create ritual around what’s precious, what makes us laugh a little, and how we define an object’s value through our relationship to it and what it gives to us. Nostalgia, humor, self-acceptance, Retro fast-food packaging, 90’s cartoons, mid-century furniture, and digital culture are visual and thematic points of inspiration for me. My studio practice is an investigation into human connection through the objects we interact with daily, and I’m very interested in how a favorite mug can blur the line between human and object, becoming an extension of its owner. Designing and making work for everyday use is my current focus, while blurring the line between functional and sculptural. I believe the objects in our routines should be moments of enjoyment that remind us of our own human connections, the good in the world, and to tune into the present moment more often.

My sculptural work is more focused on the uncomfortable personal narratives within our shared experience as people. I process my own struggle with vulnerability, mortality, and societal expectations in ceramic. With vibrantly decorated surfaces and textures that invite, entice, and distract, I illustrate the uncomfortable aspects of being human in the same way we aim to conceal vulnerability within ourselves.
